What To Look For When Buying A Slimline Dishwasher

Aside from the obvious, price. Here are some things to consider when deciding between slimline dishwasher makes and models.

  1. Capacity: Measured in ‘place settings’, which includes a set of ten items. Slimline models typically hold between 8-10 place settings. Choose based on your household size and how many dishes you get through in a day.

  2. Adjustable Layouts: Look for movable racks, removable cutlery baskets, cutlery trays and adjustable prongs for accommodating different dish sizes.

  3. Energy Rating: Higher A-rated dishwashers use less energy. Full-sized versions tend to be more energy-efficient than slimline dishwashers, as they can wash more for a similar amount of energy.

  4. Noise Level: Measured in decibels (dB), it varies by type and model. Integrated dishwashers are typically quieter than freestanding ones. Especially important if you have an open-plan layout.

  5. Settings: Basic models have standard wash cycles, while higher-spec models offer additional features like sensors and ‘eco modes’ for efficiency, though this may not always result in the best clean. Check for specific functions you might need.

If you’ve been on my website before you’ll know I’m a big fan of Miele. They make great appliances.

If you want a premium dishwasher that won’t take up a lot of your kitchen space, this is the one to go for. Miele has tested this dishwasher for the equivalent of 20 years of use and it shows in its impressive build quality.

This model doesn’t hold quite as many place settings as the others, but you’ll get a wonderful Quick PowerWash programme and with the AutoOpen drying feature, the door automatically opens at the end of the cycle, allowing fresh air to circulate and remove excess moisture.

It can also save up to 50% on electricity as all Miele dishwashers can be connected to a hot water supply at up to 60°C.

Plus, the super handy cutlery tray at the top means there’s more space for larger items at the bottom.

While not the cheapest dishwasher on this list. The Miele is built to last with incredible performance. That’s why it gets my best premium pick!

Think of this model as the little brother to the previous Series 4. Aside from its more reasonable price tag and one fewer place setting, there’s nothing little about this dishwasher.

Hit the quick wash cycle and you’ll have your dishes and cutlery done in just 29 minutes, plus there’s an auto programme feature that selects the best times and cleaning methods for faster and more efficient cleaning.

FAQs

Are integrated dishwashers installed in a cabinet?

No, integrated dishwashers are not housed inside a cabinet but are installed to fit between cabinets or end panels for support. They sit on the floor and have a cabinet door attached to the front, which allows them to blend in with the rest of the kitchen cabinetry.

Is a slimline dishwasher big enough for a family?

A slimline dishwasher typically holds 8-10 place settings which may be adequate for a smaller household of one to two people or a household that doesn’t generate a large number of dishes.

For larger households or those who tend to use more dishes, I would recommend a full-sized dishwasher with a 12-16 place setting capacity, assuming you have the space for one in your kitchen.
