What To Consider When Buying An American Fridge Freezers With Water Dispensers

Capacity

Capacity is how much the fridge freezer can actually hold and is measured in litres to give you an idea of scale and help to compare each model. Just because a fridge looks big from the outside, doesn’t mean that it has the most amount of storage inside.

Some models have thick doors or bulky sections that eat into the actual storage space. Check the capacity every time for a more accurate representation of storage, especially if you’re a big household and need all the space you can get.

Size

Not to be confused with capacity, the physical size of the appliance is a vital consideration.

Not only from an aesthetic point of view (is it so big it dominates the room? or too small in a large kitchen?), but it’s also important to make sure it will fit in your kitchen design.

Check the width, height, and depth to make sure it fits in between and underneath your units if you’re having it framed by cabinets and built to fit in the kitchen.

Also, consider the depth and how much it will stick out – by nature, American fridge freezers stick further out than cabinets, but you could always have deeper cabinets in that section or go for an appliance that doesn’t have chunky handles sticking out if you want a more streamlined look.

Features

These are some of the extra things that help separate the appliances from one another and can be things like the airflow system or Wi-Fi capabilities

However, in my opinion, the two most important features to have are a frost-free freezer section and an energy rating of at least an A.

You don’t want to manually defrost your freezer, that’s never fun and is such a waste of time. Likewise, you don’t want to be spending loads of money on electricity just keeping the appliance turned on.

It has to be on 24/7 pretty much, so make sure it’s not going to eat up your electricity and give you a nasty bill each month.

Noise

Often overlooked, noise should be a top consideration, especially if the appliance is going to be in a social kitchen space or kitchen/living area.

The noise of an appliance is measured in decibels (dB) with the lower the number, the quieter the appliance.

I would consider anything 40dB or under to be pretty quiet. If you’re not sure how loud things are when we talk in decibels here’s a little table to give you more of a real-world idea.

Decibels Type of sound
130 artillery fire at close proximity (threshold of pain)
120 amplified rock music; near jet engine
110 loud orchestral music, in audience
100 electric saw
90 bus or truck interior
80 automobile interior
70 average street noise; loud telephone bell
60 normal conversation; business office
50 restaurant; private office
40 quiet room in home
30 quiet lecture hall; bedroom
20 radio, television, or recording studio
10 soundproof room
0 absolute silence (threshold of hearing)

Hisense RS741N4WC11

Hisense RS741N4WC11 American Fridge Freezers with water dispensers

Key Features

  • A+ Energy rating
  • Annual energy cost – £71.46
  • 562-litre capacity
  • Clever tech stops ice build-ups in the fridge and freezer
  • (H)178.0 x (W)90.8 x (D)74.5
  • Noise 43dB
  • Water dispenser – no plumbing required, just top up the water tank
  • Frost free freezer
  • 2-year warranty

This is a fantastic option if you are on a tighter budget, with solid build quality and simple design. It can be placed anywhere without the need to be plumbed in.

It’s not the most energy-efficient or the quietest and the water tank takes up some of the storage space inside and can be a bit slow to dispense, but for the price point you are getting so much for your money, that’s why it’s my top budget pick.

Pros:

  • Value for money
  • Easy to move and place – no plumbing required
  • Handy wine rack

Cons:

  • Water container (4L) on the inside of the door reduces the storage space slightly
  • The water dispenser can be a bit slow
  • No ice dispenser (tray only)
  • On the noisier side at 43dB
  • Not as good energy ratings as others

Hisense RS694N4TC1

Hisense RS694N4TC1 American Fridge Freezer

Key Features

  • A+ energy rating
  • Annual energy cost – £67.45
  • 535-litre capacity
  • Clever tech stops ice build-ups in the fridge and freezer
  • Water and ice dispenser – no plumbing required, just top up the water tank
  • (H)179.3 x (W)91.0 x (D)68.6
  • Noise 43 dB
  • Frost free freezer
  • 2-year warranty

If you’re after something a little bit more stylish or if you don’t want your fridge freezer to stick out into the room as much, then this is the one for you. Good build quality and the freedom to move it around without having to plumb it in, and you get crushed and cubed ice at your disposal.

Still, it’s a little on the noisy side and doesn’t have as good an energy rating and you lose capacity due to the slim nature and internal water tank. Overall, however, for something a bit more modern looking for a very good price point, this Hisense is a great option.

Pros:

  • Stylish handle-less design
  • Shallow depth – doesn’t stick out into the room as much
  • Water and ice dispenser (crushed)
  • Easy to move and place – no plumbing required
  • Handy wine rack

Cons:

  • Smaller capacity than others
  • On the noisier side at 43dB
  • Not as good energy ratings as others
  • Slow water dispenser

When it comes to American fridge freezers, Samsung is always one of the brands I recommend most to clients. They have a great build quality and good circulation system that keeps food fresh longer.

This is on the more entry-level side for Samsung, so unfortunately you are not getting the ice dispenser and the capacity and noise levels aren’t as good, but you are getting that 5-year warranty and the quality product that Samsung make. If you want to invest in a bit more quality but don’t want to spend too much, this is a great option.
