Can You Get A Range Cooker With Built-In Extractor?
If you’re in the market for a new range cooker, you may be wondering if it’s possible to find one with a built-in extractor. A range cooker with a built-in extractor can be a great option for those who want to save space in their kitchen, or who prefer a streamlined look without a bulky hood above the cooker.
In this post, I’ll explore if it’s possible to get a range cooker with a built-in extractor, its pros, cons and why you might want one.
Let’s get into it!
What Is A Range Cooker With A Built-In Extractor?
As the name suggests, a range cooker with a built-in extractor is a kitchen appliance that combines the functionality of a range cooker with a built-in extractor hood. Instead of having a separate extractor hood installed above the cooker, a range cooker with a built-in extractor has a hood or vent built directly into the appliance.
This means that when you cook, any steam, smoke, or cooking odours are extracted directly from the cooking surface and filtered out, without the need for a separate hood or extractor.
They can be a great option for those who want to save space in their kitchen or prefer a more streamlined look.
So…
Can You Get A Range Cooker With Built-In Extractor?
Yes! You can get a range cooker with a built-in extractor. However, there is a very limited choice on the market right now as this is quite a new type of kitchen appliance.
Over the last few years, I’ve seen a huge rise in the popularity of hobs (cooktops) with built-in extractors. Most commonly induction hobs with built-in extractors (also called venting hobs).
I guess it was only a matter of time before we started to see range cookers appear with built-in extractors too.

Advantages Of A Range Cooker With Built-In Extractor?
In my experience, there could be a few main reasons why someone might want a range cooker with a built-in extractor.
- Space-saving: A range cooker with a built-in extractor can save space in your kitchen compared to a separate range cooker and extractor hood.
- Streamlined look: Without a bulky hood above the cooker, a range cooker with a built-in extractor can give your kitchen a more streamlined, minimalist and modern look. This is definitely trending as the no upper cabinet look is very popular right now.
- Easier installation: (Pro and Con) Installation may be easier than installing a separate range cooker and extractor hood since you only need to install one appliance. Especially if the alternative was to create and build out a feature cooker hood.
- Cost savings: Depending on the model you choose, it can be more affordable than buying a separate range cooker and extractor hood.
Disadvantages Of A Range Cooker With Built-In Extractor?
As with everything kitchen design and kitchen appliance related, there are always some cons or disadvantages to take into consideration.
- Limited extraction power: The extraction power of a built-in extractor may be limited compared to a separate extractor hood, which could result in less efficient removal of cooking smells, smoke, and steam. A well-powered extractor installed above a hob (cooktop) will always outperform this type of built-in version.
- Difficulty in replacing: If the extractor fails or needs to be replaced, it may be difficult or costly to replace it, as it is built into the range cooker.
- More complex installation: Installation can be more complex than installing a separate range cooker and extractor hood. Depending on its location in your kitchen and whether you are having the hood vented or recirculating it may be more difficult to install the vent pipework.
- Potentially higher cost: Range cookers with built-in extractors can be more expensive than separate range cookers and extractor hoods, although this will depend on the specific model and features.
- Limited availability: As this is still a relatively new type of kitchen appliance, there really isn’t much choice on the market. However, as with venting hobs, I can imagine other brands and manufacturers will soon be making their own versions of this and more options will hit the market soon.
Which Brands Make Range Cookers With Built-In Extractors?
Currently, at the time of writing this post, I only know of two brands making this type of kitchen appliance. The Bertazzoni Air-Tec Cooker and the Steel Cucine Enfasi Mistral.
Interestingly (to me at least) both are Italian brands. They are also both only available as induction cooktops with built-in extractors. So no gas cooktops and extractors. Not yet at least. However, you can get a gas hob with a built-in extractor, just not as part of a range cooker.
Depending on where in the world you live, these brands and products may or may not be available to you.
For me (here in the UK) I personally haven’t dealt with Steel Cucine. However, I’m very familiar with Bertazzoni and have been a fan of their range cookers for years.

Still a very new appliance to the kitchen market but one I’m sure we will be seeing more of over the next few years.
